Compressed air systems are usually built up over decades rather than designed. A line gets extended for a new cell, a drop gets added, a branch gets teed off wherever was convenient. Each decision is reasonable on its own, and the cumulative result is pressure drop, restricted flow, and moisture problems at the far end of the plant. Designing distribution properly — correct line sizing, sensible loop layout, drops taken from the top, condensate handled deliberately — costs very little more at installation and pays back continuously.
